Commonly Asked Questions about a
Chamber of Commerce
What is a Chamber of Commerce?
- Your Chamber of Commerce is a voluntary organization of citizens who are
investing their time and money in a community development program - working
together to improve the economic, civic and cultural well being of the area.
- Any citizen who is interested in helping to develop the area (which means
more businesses, more jobs, basically a better living for everyone) is
encouraged to be a member of the Chamber of Commerce.
What Does a Chamber of Commerce Do?
- The main focus of the Chamber of Commerce is to advance the economic base
and enhance the quality of life on the community. Everything a Chamber
does should have a positive impact on the community and surrounding areas.
- The Chamber of Commerce is "The Front Door to the Community".
Many times the Chamber of Commerce is the first place people go when
entering our community, whether for tourism, relocation of a family or
business. It is the Chambers job to give people a good "first
impression" of the area, along with a warm and welcome feeling.
This in turn might bring people back for future visits, or maybe even want
to join our community permanently.
- The Chamber of Commerce is also the "Information
Headquarters". People from all over the state and country
will call the Chamber of Commerce for information on, phone numbers,
locations, and general inquires about the area.
- The Chamber of Commerce helps bring the community together to become a
cohesive group who will work and help each other in all community
activities. The Chamber helps create job opportunities through
stimulation of industrial and commercial growth and helps to bring tourism
and interest to our community.
- In all of these functions the Chamber of Commerce is serving as a
department - a partner - of every business, every professional and
every citizen in the area.
How the Chamber is Financed
- The work of the Chamber is financed by the investment of the members
support (dues) and by fund-raisers sponsored by the Chamber. Dues
structure is designed to permit even the smallest business to be a member.
Professionals, retirees, and individuals that are interested in the progress
of the area are encouraged to join.
How the Chamber Functions:
- The Chamber is composed of committee workers, directors and officers
(board) who serve without pay. When budget allows, a chamber
staff devotes their full time to the Chamber of Commerce as the only paid
employee.
